The Bacterial Diversity Lurking in Protist Cell Cultures

چکیده
Laboratory cultures of heterotrophic protists are often xenic, meaning that the culture contains more than one microbial organism. In this study, we analyzed genome-assembly data from four marine protist flagellates—the malawimonad Imasa heleensis, undescribed mantamonad strain SRT-306, discobid Ophirina amphinema, and cryptist Palpitomonas bilix—specifically to search for genomes cocultured bacteria. As no external bacteria have been added stock cultures, it is probable came original water samples which were isolated. At least some these consumed as a food source by protists, all obligate heterotrophs. From separate metagenomic de novo assemblies mixed identified 28 scaffolds, BUSCO analyses suggest represent complete or near-complete bacterial genomes. These scaffolds range in length 3,139,436 6,090,282 bp encode 2873 5666 genes. Only eight corresponded entries NCBI genome database, 20 putatively novel species. Our findings highlight like these, discarded overlooked, can be and/or

Bacterial diversity in the intestine of sea cucumber Stichopus japonicus
The intestinal bacterial diversity of Stichopus japonicus was investigated using 16S ribosomal RNA gene (rDNA) clone library and Polymerase Chain Reaction/Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE). The clone library yielded a total of 188 clones, and these were sequenced and classified into 106 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) with sequence similarity ranging from 88 to 100%. The cov...

Coexisting protist-bacterial community accelerates protein transformation in microcosm experiments

However, previous studies have revealed that specific bacterial membrane...
متن کاملStaling in bacterial cultures.
When a strain of bacteria is streaked on a nutrient agar or gelatin medium containing a large number of its own viable cells, no growth appears even after long incubation. Eijkman (1904) and Powers and Levine (1937) suggested that this phenomenon of "staling" was due to specific, autoinhibitory substances and that it might serve as a basis for selective and differential techniques in determinat...
